Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) views pregnancy as a vital process that requires balance and harmony within the body. Some of the changes that occur include:

The balance between Yin and Yang: Pregnancy is seen as a time when Yin (nurturing, nourishing) and Yang (active, energizing) must be balanced. Yin is particularly important during pregnancy to support the growing baby.

Qi (Vital Energy): Qi is considered essential for all bodily functions. During pregnancy, the mother’s Qi supports the development of your baby. TCM practitioners often assess the mother's Qi to ensure it is strong and balanced.

Blood: In TCM, blood is crucial for nourishing both the mother and the baby. Sufficient blood flow is believed to be vital for a healthy pregnancy. Conditions like “blood deficiency” can lead to complications.

Diet and Lifestyle: TCM emphasises a balanced diet tailored to the individual’s needs during pregnancy. Foods are categorised by their warming or cooling properties, and the right balance is thought to support both mother and baby.

Emotional Well-Being: Emotional health is considered critical during pregnancy. TCM practitioners may use herbal remedies, acupuncture, and mindfulness techniques to support mental and emotional balance.

Overall, TCM takes a holistic approach to pregnancy, aiming to create a harmonious environment for both the mother and the developing child.
